How Will Investigator Training Be Standardized?
Despite the absence of a regulation that clearly defines what kind of training a clinical investigator needs, the FDA has begun to review investigator training as part of on-site inspections. Government and market pressure to for clinical investigators to be trained and certified is on the increase. In recent months, the three major certifying bodies AAPP, ACRP and DIA began preliminary talks about the feasibility and desirability of forming a single, separate credentialing body where clinical investigators could seek certification after undergoing training through myriad venues, thereby creating a single standard clinical investigator certification. Ultimately, some would like to see pharmaceutical medicine become a medical specialty in which investigators can become board certified.
